        "abstract": "A selection of clusters in M33 is studied using three different observational techniques which give consistent quantitative results. M33 contains clusters which resemble galactic globular clusters as well as clusters as young as 10^8 years; the luminous clusters thus have an age range similar to those of the Magellanic Clouds rather than those of our Galaxy or M31. The four true globular clusters in our sample are all more metal poor than 47 Tuc. Based on limited data, the carbon star contribution to the integrated infrared light of the intermediate age clusters in M33 is approximately the same as in the intermediate age clusters in the Magellanic Clouds.",

        "abstract": "Slit spectra, spectrophotometric scans, and infrared broad-band observations are presented of 18 Markarian galaxies with emission lines. Eight of the program galaxies can be classified as Seyfert galaxies. Arguments are given that thermal, nonthermal, and stellar radiation components are present. Broadly speaking, one group of Seyfert galaxies is characterized both by the presence of a high-density region of gas and by a continuum dominated by nonthermal radiation.\nThe continua of the remaining program Seyferts, which do not have a high density region of gas, are dominated by thermal radiation from dust and a stellar continuum. The 10 galaxies\nwhich are not Seyfert galaxies are shown to be examples of extragalactic H II regions; there is evidence for thermal emission from dust being present at 10 \u03bc. in four of these galaxies.",

        "abstract": "In this review we concentrate on one important and neglected aspect of supernova research and discuss the literature concerned with the description, classification, and interpretation of the spectra of supernovae. This literature is very fragmentary\nand scattered, which no doubt in part explains the confusion that persists in the subject. We hope that this attempt to synthesize what is known about supernova spectra and to compile a bibliography of some of the more valuable contributions\nin this area will prove timely in view of the recent rapid expansion of observational efforts in this field, It will, of course, also reveal how sadly inadequate observational efforts have been in the past.",

        "abstract": "The purpose of this communication is to point out a similarity in the optical continua of several objects, all associated with violent events, but which otherwise have a diverse character. The objects are the nucleus of the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4151, the galactic, nova-like object \u03b7 Carinae, the Crab Nebula and the quasi-stellar radio source, 3C748. (The term nova-like is to some extent descriptive of the spectrum. In using it, we do not mean to imply a mechanism for the outburst in \u03b7 Carinae. This outburst has involved energies characteristic of supernovae and, unlike either supernovae or novae, has a time scale of the order of a century.) The optical spectrum of NGC 4151 has been discussed by Seyfert and Woltjer, that of \u03b7 Carinae by Thackeray, that of the Crab Nebula by Woltjer and Mayall, and that of 3C48 by Greenstein and Schmidt. The emission lines in all of these spectra show, as a common feature, evidence of internal motions as large as a few thousand km/sec. We indicate in Table 1 some of the principal observed features of these objects.",
