"abstract": "We report experiments and molecular dynamics calculations on the kinetics of electrodeposited lithium dendrites relaxation as a function of temperature and time. We found that the experimental average length of dendrite population decays via stretched exponential functions of time toward limiting values that depend inversely on temperature. The experimental activation energy derived from initial rates as E_a~ 6-7 kcal/mole, which is closely matched by MD calculations, based on the ReaxFF force field for metallic lithium. Simulations reveal that relaxation proceeds in several steps via increasingly larger activation barriers. Incomplete relaxation at lower temperatures is therefore interpreted a manifestation of cooperative atomic motions into discrete topologies that frustrate monotonic progress by 'caging'.",

"abstract": "We have quantified lithium dendrite growth in an optically accessible symmetric Li-metal cell, charged under imposed temperatures on the electrode surface. We have found that the dendrite length measure is reduced up to 43% upon increasing anodic temperature of about 50\u00b0C. We have deduced that imposing higher temperature on the electrode surface will augment the reduction rate relative to dendritic peaks and therefore lithium holes can draw near with the sharp deposited tips. We have addressed this mechanism via fundamentals of electrochemical transport.",

"abstract": "The degradation of phenol (C_6H_5OH) was investigated under sonication, ozonation, and the combination of sonication and ozonation. The coupling of these two oxidation processes yielded phenol degradation kinetics that are similar to those predicted from the linear combination of the individual sonication and ozonation experiments. However, synergistic effects of sonolytic ozonation were observed for the reduction of the total organic carbon (TOC) in these systems. The rate of TOC decomposition was found to be proportional to both the aqueous steady-state ozone concentration and the ultrasonic power density. At 358 kHz, sonication combined with ozonation enhanced TOC loss rates by 43% over the sum of the rates obtained by the separate treatments. Intermediate species detected during the degradation of phenol indicate that while the primary degradation products are efficiently degraded by simple ozonolysis, the simultaneous addition of ultrasonic irradiation is necessary to degrade the more recalcitrant unsaturated daughter products.",

"abstract": "The kinetics of O_2(g) adsorption, desorption, and CH_4(g) or H_2(g) oxidation on 7% Li-doped MgO were investigated by on-line, modulated beam mass spectrometry in a low-pressure, continuous flow reactor between 930\u20131130 K. Under these conditions, which suppress gas-phase reactions, only purely heterogenous processes take place in this system. Dosage of the amounts of bound oxygen removed at several stages of evacuation, or consumed by reaction with methane or hydrogen, indicates that oxygen adsorption is a reversible process leading to at least two major types of chemisorbed species. The kinetics of O_2(g) exchange is a slow process in the time scale of the experiments, that can not be described by Langmuir-type equilibrium isotherms involving either dissociative or nondissociative adsorption on one or two types of active sites. Fast adsorption on a precursor state, followed by slow conversion into a more strongly bound species seem essential to model oxygen take up by the solid. On an oxygen saturated oxide, but in the absence of O_2(g), methane reacts rapidly with about 14% of the pool of exchangeable oxygen, after which a slower oxidation reaction sets in. Hydrogen behaves similarly. During the slow oxidation stage methane is oxidized into carbon oxides and ethane, but not water, and partially decomposes into unvolatile carbon-containing species without releasing H_2(g).",
