"abstract": "NOTE: Text or symbols not renderable in plain ASCII are indicated by [...]. Abstract is included in .pdf document.\r\n\r\nNGC 6822 is a member of the Local Group, type Im, coordinates [...]. The main body has a diameter of 3.6 c kpc and a mass (from radio rotation curves) of [...]. Mass-to-light ratio is 6.1 x c[superscript -1]. The color-magnitude diagram is plotted from measures on photographic plates calibrated by a photoelectric sequence. Photometry is complete to 19.5 (M[subscript v] = -5). Major features are bright blue supergiants, the brightest star having M [subscript v] = -9, and a sequence of very red supergiants one magnitude fainter than the blue, many of which show variations of over 1000 days. A significant number of stars lie in the Hertzsprung gap. Two-color photometry shows there is intervening reddening of [...]. A luminosity function is calculated.\r\n\r\nThirty-two variable stars are discussed, of which thirteen are Cepheids, two are red semi-regulars, one may be eclipsing, and the others are irregular. The period-luminosity relations for the Cepheids are < V > = 23.35 - 2. 97 log P and < B > = 23.91 - 2.61 log P. These lead to a true distance modulus (m-M) = 23.75 [plus or minus] 0.10. Secular changes in period are less than 0.001% in 40 years. The eleven variables with 1.6 < (B-V)[...] < 2. 1 have cycles 200-2500 days.\r\n\r\nComparisons with evolutionary models indicate that the stars observed have masses of 9 to 63 [...].",

"abstract": "A total of 944 stars in the general region of h and chi Persei in the Perseus Galactic arm have been observed photometrically in U, B, and V of the Johnson-Morgan photometric system. Supergiants, O stars, giants, subgiants, and their fainter immediate neighbors (used to obtain reddenings) totaling 336 stars have been measured photoelectrically in the general OB association of which the galactic clusters form the nucleus. Within the extreme nuclei of the clusters-proper, photoelectrically calibrated photographic observations have been made with completeness down to about 18th magnitude on an additional 608 stars; however, the photoelectric limit is V = 17. 0. Fine structure is exhibited by the stars above the vertical main sequence and a slightly fainter red off-shoot is found. A sequence of stars is found in apparent gravitational contraction but with main-sequence stars extending, nevertheless, to the observational limit. At present the data is best represented by theories of gravitational contraction, hydrogen-burning, and helium-burning, together with a non-unique epoch of stellar condensation. Contraction and nuclear time-scales for the different features are compatible. The differences in apparent evolutionary tracks between the Galaxy, LMC, and SMC are reconfirmed. The 2-color diagram of the bluest stars is of a gray-body character. Sp vs (B-V)[subscript o] is monotonic for all stars. The M supergiants are shifted red-ward over previous studies and form a steep 2-color relation.",
